Street Play on Women’s Empowerment

Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the activity is to make villagers aware of their legal rights including the Right to information, First Information Report and Laws related to women. Its main aim is to go closer to those who have been marginalized by society and to convey the message through direct and effective means of dramaturgy. It focuses on the social and political issues of people with an aim to create awareness among all the people. It focuses more on bringing change in the society. Street play as a tool for bringing change has many advantages. Performance of street play in local languages contributes to community participation. The cost-free show is the other advantage of street play.

Mr. Ramesh Singh & Ms.Shilpi Tyagi

Target Audience

Approx. 60-65 had attended the Street Play.

Venue

Khora Village, Ghaziabad, U.P.

Mode

Physical

Outcomes and Objectives Achieved

The theme like Women Empowerment which is an idea to perform independent street play has always been about bringing positive changes in society. It was apparent from the response of the audience that they were able to connect with the storyline of the act and this all has become every household’s story. Students had an interactive session with some of the audience about their opinion on our act and tried to understand their perspective. Our students then explained to them the 2014 guidelines laid down by SC in Arnesh v. State of Bihar, 2014, that the police officer shall forward the checklist duly filed and furnish the reasons and materials which necessitated the arrest while forwarding/producing the accused before the Magistrate for further detention; The Magistrate while authorising detention of the accused shall peruse the report furnished by the police officer in terms aforesaid and only after recording its satisfaction, the Magistrate will authorise detention.

Observations

As per the feedback taken from the students and faculty, it has been observed that these kinds of NukkadNatak related to women empowerment must be conducted more often. The Street Play’s impact on the overall feeling of Reflecting on the contemporary issue turned out to be of a great deal. Overall, the output was positive, Appreciable by Authorities.

Any Other Suggestions

These kinds of Nukkad Natak related to women’s empowerment must be conducted more often.

Conduct Methodology

The survey was conducted by following the series of steps as mentioned below:
1. Contacted the village pradhan for an appointment.
2. Conducted a meeting with him along with his representative.
3. Visited from door to door in the village for data collection and find out the issues faced by the villagers.

Outcomes and Objectives Achieved

After the data so collected, we find out the following issues in the village
1. No Government medical facilities are available (Hospital & Dispensary)
2. Poor Drainage system in Khora
3. No skill development programmes are run by Government
4. People have no awareness of farming as there exists no farming land
5. Labour and business class exist
6. Poor condition of the schools
7. Need books in the library at Sadallapur

Observations

We have observed that:-
1. Most of the people in the village belong to the service and business sector in the Sadallapur and Khora village and they have small shops.
2. Very less land exists for farming, so most people are unaware of the Government programs for agriculture and its dependent sector and also the number of farmers is quiet less in number.
3. Despite various Government schemes the villagers are unable to take the benefit.
4. No Primary health centre for women is set up exist in Khora and Sadallapur villages.
5. Villagers are not aware of their legal rights.

Shortcomings

Due to hesitation, for a few participants, it was a little difficult to speak in English, but with the help of other team members, they could successfully present their case.

Recommendations for Future Improvements

In Future, we are planning to have a Legal Aid Camp and a Free Eye check-up camp.
